Swim - Gettysburg - Sharks - Swim Team

Since 1984, the Sharks have been swimming at the Y, here in Gettysburg.

The team is open to youth between the ages of 5 and 18 who can demonstrate the following:

Ages 10 & Under: 25 meters each of freestyle and backstroke
Ages 11 & Over: 50 meters each of freestyle and backstroke

The team will compete in CPAL dual meets and a YMCA meet or 2.

1/30- @ BSAC w MASC

Our championship series will begin with Divisionals on Saturday, February 20th and All Stars on Sunday, February 21st.

Our end-of-season banquet will be held in March.

As you may notice, registration is currently set up in three monthly installments for October, November, and December. The Y is in the process of transitioning to a new membership and program registration software. To help make that transition as smooth as possible, this season’s registration fee has been divided into five total monthly payments — October through February.

When registering now, you will be registering for the October, November, and December portion of the season. You may choose to make those payments monthly or pay all three through the end of December at once. Aside from October, which is due at registration, ALL OTHER MONTHS must be paid by the 15^th of the month. I will do my best to send out a reminder to do so. Please do NOT DELAY when doing this. We have around 100 swimmers, I don’t want to hunt down 25+ of you every month.

Beginning in January 2027, the final two payments for January and February will be completed through the Y’s new registration system.

We’ll provide more information and reminders as we move through the season so everyone knows what needs to be done when January arrives.

High School Winter Swimmer

Branch: Gettysburg

VIEW

This level is designed for 14-18 year-old-swimmers who are members of their high school team (with regular practice schedules).

This group is for swimmers who will practice with the Sharks on a regular basis from October 12 through the beginning of their high school season. Once high school practices and meets begin, these swimmers may double with the Sharks, but will mostly practice with their high school team.

These swimmers will be expected to compete in Shark’s dual meets, as the HS schedule permits. A recommended list of meets will be sent out after the schedule is set.

Practice Schedule:

October 12- Mid November (and Sharks practices/meets through February)

Monday-Thursday: 6:30-8:15 p.m.
Friday: 530-630p.m.

After HS begins, you may attend Sharks practices through the end of February.

This level is designed for new and returning 8 & under swimmers and new 9-10-year-old swimmers and focuses on the four competitive strokes, starts, and finishes. The makeup of practice will be 80% technique and 20% endurance. Practice recommendation 2-3 practices/week.

Practices will begin on Monday 10/12 and continue for 2 weeks. Swimmers are able to come to as many practices during that time to gather a feel for the team and determine if it is right for your swimmer.
