Swim - Gettysburg - Sharks - Swim Team
Since 1984, the Sharks have been swimming at the Y, here in Gettysburg.
The team is open to youth between the ages of 5 and 18 who can demonstrate the following:
Ages 10 & Under: 25 meters each of freestyle and backstroke
Ages 11 & Over: 50 meters each of freestyle and backstroke
The team will compete in CPAL dual meets and a YMCA meet or 2.

Look for 1 or 2 in late November, 2-3 in December, 2-3 in January and maybe 1 in February.
Our championship series will begin with Divisionals on Saturday, February 20th and All Stars on Sunday, February 21st.
Our end-of-season banquet will be held in March

Meet The Sharks! 2026-2027
🦈 MEET THE SHARKS! 🦈
Wednesday, September 16th, 2026 | 6:00–7:00 PM
Interested in joining the Gettysburg Sharks Swim Team? Meet the Sharks is a great opportunity for new swimmers and families to meet some of our coaches, learn about the team, and see what being a Shark is all about!
While Coach Megan Maslowski meets with parents to talk about the Sharks, what to expect during the season, and answer questions, Coach Kelly and Coach Carrie will be on deck working with the swimmers in the water.
What should swimmers bring?
All swimmers should bring:
- Bathing suit
- Goggles
- Towel
- Swim cap or hair pulled back for swimmers with long hair
- Flip-flops or slides are highly recommended
NEW SWIMMERS 🦈
All new swimmers should attend Meet the Sharks OR schedule a separate tryout with Coach Megan.
During the pool portion, our coaches will get to know your swimmer and see what they can do in the water.
New swimmers ages 8 & under should be able to swim one length of the pool (25 meters) in both freestyle and backstroke.
New swimmers ages 9 & older should be able to swim two lengths of the pool (50 meters) in both freestyle and backstroke.
We would also LOVE to see any other skills your swimmer knows—breaststroke, butterfly, dives, flip turns, etc.—but these skills are NOT required!
Our coaches will use the tryout to determine if your swimmer is ready to join the Sharks and where they would best fit within our program.
What happens after the tryout?
If your swimmer is ready to join the team, they will have the opportunity to try the Sharks for two weeks for a small fee before committing to the full season.
If we feel your swimmer needs a little more time before joining the team, that’s okay too! We will recommend our swim lesson program to help them continue building their skills. Lessons are offered throughout the year and can help prepare them to become a Shark in the future. 🦈

There is NO fee to attend Meet the Sharks, but we do ask that families register ahead of time.

Two-Week Trial
Practices will begin on Monday 10/ and continue for 2 weeks. Swimmers are able to come to as many practices during that time to gather a feel for the team and determine if it is right for your swimmer.
