As a purely defensive art Aikido uses an attacker's energy and momentum to defeat the attack. Aikido does not rely on forceful blocking, punching, kicking, or physical dominance. Since it does not require strength or size, Aikido can be mastered by all, regardless of size or gender.

The class starts with a warm-up to prevent injuries. The warm-up consists of basic stretching and is focused on the training that follows. 
Objectives of the class:        
Learning how to fall and roll safety.
Techniques are practiced much more slowly than “real time”, so that you can learn each of the movements. Emphasis is placed on staying relaxed throughout the movement, and being aware of your own and your partner’s energy.
